This device is simple awesome! I purchased a Crucial SSD hard drive, which comes with data transfer software but it’s not the most user friendly as it doesn’t give much by way of instructions, so it’s difficult to track the progress of the data transfer until you figure out that it probable shouldn’t be taking as long as it is for the process to complete. The duplicator is straightforward, easy to use and works like a charm! My laptop had and HDD drive that was being taxed to it’s limits, slower than a snail and made me want to punch a hole through it. Now, I love it again because the speed difference is astonishing after using the duplicator to clone my drive. Just clone the drive and install it, couldn’t be any easier…thought I needed a new computer but just needed to upgrade my drive to a faster one and the duplicator saved me days of transfer time because of it’s ease of use and speed of transfer.

  2. Artak

    Very good, thank you

  3. Jay

    Works beautifully.

  4. Bruce A Mc Donald

An excellent solution to create offline storage of project data sets with a 100% mirror.

  5. R. Mendez

Works great for drive cloning, but does not automatically expand the partition to fit the drive. You will need to do that manually in the OS. not a deal breaker but …just one more step

StarTech items work well and last. This is my 4th StarTech item I have purchased over the last 8 years. Everything still functions as new. I already had one of their docks and I have use for a duplicator. So I trust StarTech devices. Easy to set up and use. And it works as advertised. I expect the longevity to be useful for many years even as I use it simply as a docking station for an internal drive most of the time. The duplication works perfectly, as I use it to create backups of other hard drives every week.

I used this device to add a four terrabyte external drive to my system for backup. The computer found it right away and the file transfers were reasonably fast when attached to a USB 3 connector. I used it to clean a few drives that were removed from old computers before disposal.I did also try cloning two drives. I was cloning from a smaller drive to a larger one and it worked exactly as expected without tying up the computing resources of my computer.I have had similar ones that I use for a three drive backup rotation and they have worked well. This one has the added cloning feature so it is one step above what I have been using.

This drive dock works well for cloning and recovering data from hard drives. I’ve owned a few different brands over the years and this is my favorite so far. I like the status LED indicators on this dock better than those with only a blinking LED. I can’t speak for the speed because the only drive I have cloned with this so far was a 5400 RPM laptop drive to a SSD, but It did the job flawlessly.

Their post sales Tech Support for other than mechanical or software issues is why I have so many StarTech products. When I recently up graded to 16TB from 10TB HDDs, for my external storage for my Win10 Pro laptop, and when I made the swap out my laptop did not see them. When I called Tech Support, they knew right away what the problem could be. For starters, assuming the new HDDs did work and my laptop’s BIOS wasn’t corrupted, they asked if I had formatted them. When I said no, they ended up guiding me through the process because it was a procedure that I did not normally do. The tech was very patient with me as I fumbled through the process, but he stayed with me until they were both formatted and up and running.Tech Support like this is rare nowadays, and this value added service for an out of warranty item is what makes StarTech such a great company.

I bought this to quickly clone/duplicate drives. What caught my eye was the 22GB/s transfer rate. It’s probably 22GB/s if your high-end, high-dollar write drive supports it. My inexpensive, Inland Pro, 256GB drives were copied repeatedly in 14:30. That works out to 17GB/s which is way faster than a PC connection. I duplicated/ 4 256GB drives in an hour and five minutes. Amazing. Paid for itself on the first use.Getting the unit to duplicate drives is not intuitive. Plug the source drive into slot 2. The destination drive is plugged into, you guess it, slot 1. Power on & wait a split second for the drives to be recognized. Next, press and hold the PC/Copy button until red. Finally press Copy. A bunch of blinky lights display the status.
